Angie is a 16 year old girl living in New York sometime in the distant future. She's a bit of a tomboy, loves Japanese fashion and is always pushing herself to find out her limits.
Angie's hairstyle went through several iterations before arriving at the style you see here. Since she's a tomboy, instead of makeup I felt war paint and small details like the scar on her forehead would help sell her thrill for adventure.
Designing the clothes of a 16 year old girl living in a futuristic New York was a very fun challenge. Japan's fashion is known to be somewhat wild and crazy, so I got to take some real liberties creating Angie's look.
The shoes of the future, always a fun concept to tackle. I took inspiration from the buckles of ski boots for the laces and had the front of the shoes have a metal toe with an illumination feature; useful when exploring at night or in caves.
This type of knight is known as a Dragoon. When designing him I was stumped on what to do for his cape and didn't want something traditional. Sometime after inking him, this idea came to me and am very happy with it how it turned out.
I always love giving my characters interesting hairstyles. I also seem to gravitate towards my characters dying their hair, thus the blond eyebrows and dark brown hair.
I had a lot of fun with the proportions of this character. Since he doesn't have the ability to have a shield, he's reinforced the armor on his forearms and he blocks attacks with that.
My favorite part of the boots are the giant steel toes that give a very unique look to his silhouette.
This was a piece I drew a number of years ago with pencil and paper. When I came across it recently, I remembered it fondly and decided to give it the full HD treatment.
Though drawn many years ago, I still felt this was a great piece that would only benefit from everything I've learned with digital coloring. I absolutely love his hairstyle.
Originally the instrument had been drawn with 5 strings and other features that made it more guitar than bass. I'm a stickler for details and after doing some proper research realized at the end of the day it needed to be a bass.
I wasn't trilled about the idea of drawing proper "criss cross" laces. After giving it some thought, I realized that some people do actually lace their shoes in a more casual style like this and felt it fit his laid back personality perfectly.
The concept behind this character was based on the traditional "bedsheet ghost" that we're all so familiar with at Halloween.
I imagine he died sometime in the Victorian era, thus his ghostly clothes retain a slight look of class.
Originally when coloring him I chose a color scheme that was almost carnival like. Since coming back to this piece and giving it the full HD treatment, I had planned on giving him a more darker sinister color scheme, but this one had ended up growing on me.
Something that amuses me about this character is that his clothes are of the physical realm, while he is of the ethereal realm. Not too sure how that would work, but it's a fact that makes me smile
In the original line work I didn't actually have the tail being see through. The decision to make it appear that way actually came very late in the coloring process and I really had just tried it on a whim. In the end I really think is sells the whole "Ghost" effect.
A 9ft tall bird like creature of terrible power. At almost 600 years old, he's lost all fear of death and is considered a plague upon any battlefield he's seen on.
Wow, had to dust this one off. An oldie, but a goodie as they say. It still makes me smile.
The son of Kokopelli, the great music spirit. Lokopelli is a lively troublesome mischievous spirit, but at the end of the day loves spreading the joy of music. Since illustrations of Kokopelli are always done as a silhouette, when designing his son I wanted to emulate that same look.
“She’ll make you cry.” I can’t wait to see how this one turns out digitally! FUN STUFF!
I originally had sketched this out on a piece of notebook paper, but ended up liking it so much I recreated it in pixel art. Only years later would I bring it into the realm of HD. Oversized is defeinitely a theme here. Oversized hair and oversized goggles.
