I like to think, much like in Mega Man, this robot was built from a desire to help mankind before it was re-programmed by the military for combat. It originally had a body and legs, but it was found to be far more deadly without them.
I always have a blast modeling robots. When I had planned to share this model on my site, I knew any modeler worth his salt always has to add a base for their model. So even though this robot hovers, I felt a display stand was appropriate.
Modeled after the submarine players commandeer in Final Fantasy VII, I modeled this to populate the Junon Docking Bay environment. The base is modeled after the Shin-Ra company logo.
There have been many versions of Shrdder's armor depicted in various media over the years (comics, tv, movies, etc.) but the original 1980's cartoon had the biggest impact on me, so that's the version I went with.
Even though based on the 1980's cartoon, I wanted to add a more realistic level of detail to the armor with various screws and latches, that would make taking the armor on and off more realistic.
